MCPG IN THE NEWS

The Maryland Council on Problem Gambling (MCPG) received approval from its Agility Grant sponsor, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to release a problem gambling awareness campaign for the Deaf community. The project is rooted in the socio-political history of the Deaf community, which has faced more than 50 years of marginalization, leading to mistrust and limited research on gambling behaviors in this group. When coupled with the stigmas surrounding gambling in underrepresented communities, Deaf and hard of hearing (HoH)

individuals who engage in gambling are not represented in gambling research or gambling prevention. Recognizing the need for culturally tailored programs to promote gambling awareness and harm reduction among persons experiencing deafness and HoH, the MCPG launched its public awareness prevention campaign.
